RESULTS
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Clemson cross country program competed in the Furman Invitational Saturday morning where the women placed first with 19 points and the men, second with 60, each running four miles.
Silvia Jelelgo placed first with a time of 21:03.24 for one point. Jelelgo finished 47 seconds before the unattached second-place runner and over a minute before Furman-attached third place runner. Finishing consecutively, Elizabeth Ilanda (fifth, 22:28.10), Emily Lamontagne (sixth, 22:30.42), Madelyn Dinneen (Seventh, 22:34.57) and Madison Timms (eighth, 22:46.60) rounded out the top five.
For the men, Brendan Gomez led the Tigers, finishing sixth with a time of 19:14.36 (six points). The other top five finishers include Garrett Brown (eighth, 19:15.60, eight points), Gideon Kiplimo (17th, 19:28.57, 14 points), Jack Hearld (18th, 19:40.30, 15 points) and Trey Sullivan (21st, 19:52.93, 17 points).
Cross Country Head Coach Vicky Pounds was pleased with the performances today. “I thought there were solid performances for both teams. I liked the consistency of the women’s team. Silvia again stood out, having a minute lead from the next collegiate runner. It was also nice to see freshman Jack Hearld slide into a scoring position for the men.”
