Personal: Grandson of Roberto Durán Jaeger is one of Panama’s most accomplished golfers. He won the Jaycee Tournament in Panama in 1963, representing the country at the Junior Jaycee World Championship in Midland, Texas. While at Miami Dade Junior College, he helped the team capture the 1966 NJCAA National Championship, earning All-Tournament First Team honors. He continued at the University of Miami, where he was named Second Team All-American (1965–66), First Team All-American (1966–67), and served as team captain (1967–68), competing in the NCAA Championship in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Durán went on to win the Central American Championship (1969–1973) and later represented Panama at the 2002 World Amateur in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In senior competition, he qualified for the USGA Senior Amateur in 2002, reaching match play, and was the low qualifier in 2004. His legacy is firmly in golf and he remains a distinguished figure in Panamanian golf history … Samual’s dad is the president of the Panama Golf Federation.
