Sean Dixon

Position: Assistant Coach

Sean Dixon enters his third season as an assistant coach on Brad Brownell’s staff. Prior to Clemson he served as an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State for the previous four seasons under Head Coach Nick McDevitt.

Coach Dixon arrived in Tigertown the same time as Associate Head Coach Billy Donlon. The Tigers have won 47 games over the last two seasons since his arrival, including 25 wins in the ACC. Dixon works in lockstep with Donlon and Coach Brownell on the Tigers’ defense. In three NCAA Tournament wins that advanced Clemson to the Elite Eight for the first time in 44 years, Clemson limited its opponent to just 14-of-75 from three (18.7%).

Dixon works primarily with the Tigers’ wing players and that has included the ascension of rising junior Chauncey Wiggins. Last season, Wiggins took a giant step forward in his development at Clemson, playing in all 36 games and starting 18. He shot 44.2 percent from the field, and netted double-figures seven times, including a career-high 19 points at Memphis.

Dixon spent the five seasons prior to Middle Tennessee also under McDevitt with the UNC Asheville Bulldogs. He was an assistant coach in 2013-14 when McDevitt was named head coach before being elevated to the position of associate head coach prior to the 2017-18 season. Dixon specialized in guard development and was McDevitt’s recruiting coordinator while in Asheville.

The Bulldogs saw high levels of success in Dixon’s five years alongside McDevitt on the Asheville bench, notching a 98-66 record that includes three 20-win seasons and postseason appearances in their final three campaigns.

UNC Asheville also collected three Big South trophies in the last three seasons of the McDevitt era, with Dixon helping lead the team to a Big South Tournament title in 2016, a share of the regular season title in 2017 and an outright regular season title in 2018.

Prior to joining McDevitt in Asheville, Dixon spent four years on the coaching staff at his alma mater, Presbyterian College.

Dixon played four seasons at Presbyterian, twice serving as a team captain, and earned second team All-Big South honors as a sophomore and first team All-Big South honors as a junior and senior.

The Marietta, Ga., native finished his playing career with 1,106 career points before earning his bachelor’s degree in business management in 2007.

Dixon now resides in Murfreesboro with his wife, Tara, their daughter, Kinsley, and son, Kyler.
