53rd-ranked Clemson Women’s Tennis Defeats No. 48 Virginia

CLEMSON, SC- The 53rd-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team earned their third ACC win of the season on Sunday, defeating 48th-ranked Virginia by a score of 5-2. With the win,the Tigers improve to 11-7, 3-1 in the ACC, while the Cavaliers fall to 10-5 (1-2 in the ACC).

Clemson swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The Tigers’ 31st-ranked team of Laurence Jayet and Alix Lacelarie defeated Virginia’s Jennifer Tuchband and Henriette Williams by a score of 8-6 at number one doubles. Clemson’s Anna Dolinska and Anna Savitskaya were victorious at the number two doubles position over Dora and Marta Bechliwanis, 8-6. Clemson’s number three doubles team of Richele LeSaldo and Milena Stanoycheva won a 9-8(7-3) decision over the Cavaliers’ Christine Kim and Amy O’Donnell.

In singles action, #83 Lacelarie of Clemson defeated Williams of Virginia, 6-2, 6-3 at flight one. At the number two singles slot, the Tigers’ Savitskaya was victorious over 77th-ranked Tuchband of Virginia 2-6, 6-3, 6-0. Clemson’s LeSaldo fell to the Cavaliers’ O’Donnell by a score of 6-2, 6-0 at number three singles. Jayet of Clemson fell to Dora Bechliwanis of Virginia in three sets at flight four singles, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. The Tigers’ Ioana Paun was victorious over Marta Bechliwanis by a score of 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 at number five singles. Clemson’s Stanoycheva earned a 7-6, 6-1 win over Virginia’s Kim at flight six singles.

The Tigers will travel to Atlanta to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Thursday Apr. 4. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
