39th-Ranked Clemson Women’s Tennis Falls to #5 Duke, 6-1

DURHAM, NC – The 39th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team fell to fifth-ranked Duke by a score of 6-1 in Durham, NC. The Tigers complete the regular season with a 13-9 overall record and a 5-3 record in the ACC. With the win, the Blue Devils improve to 19-3 overall and 7-0 in conference play.

In doubles play, Duke won all three matches to earn the doubles point. Clemson’s 26th-ranked team of Laurence Jayet and Alix Lacelarie fell to Hillary Adams and Kelly McCain of Duke by a score of 8-5 at flight one. At number two doubles, the Tigers’ Anna Dolinska and Anna Savitskaya lost an 8-4 decision to the Blue Devils’ 42nd-ranked team of Julie DeRoo and Amanda Johnson. Clemson’s duo of Richele LeSaldo and Milena Stanoycheva fell at number three doubles by a score of 8-5 to Duke’s Katie Granson and Susie Abromeit.

In singles action, the Tigers’ 47th-ranked Alix Lacelarie was defeated by Duke’s third-ranked Kelly McCain, 6-1, 6-4, at flight one. At number two singles, #102 Anna Savitskaya of Clemson fell to #30 Amanda Johnson of Duke by a score of 6-4, 6-2. Tiger Ana Stiglic lost a 6-1, 6-0 decision to 26th-ranked Julie DeRoo of the Blue Devils at number three singles. At flight four singles, Laurence Jayet of Clemson fell to Ioana Plesu of Duke, 6-2, 6-0. Tiger freshman Ioana Paun lost a 6-2, 6-4 decision to 77th-ranked Blue Devil Saras Arasu at five singles. Clemson senior Milena Stanocheva won a three set match at number six singles over Duke’s Katie Granson, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6.

The Tigers will travel to Raleigh, NC to compete in the 2002 ACC Championships on Apr. 18-21.
