#31 Florida State Defeats Clemson 4-3

TALLAHASSEE, FL – #31 Florida State defeated Clemson 4-3 in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s tennis match at Tallahassee, FL Saturday afternoon. With the win, Florida State improves to 13-3 overall and 4-0 in the ACC. The Seminoles are ranked 31st according to the latest ITA poll. Clemson falls to 5-8 overall and 2-1 in league play. The match lasted four and a half hours at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

Florida State started the match by winning the doubles point. In singles play, the Seminoles won at number-four as Cristian Gonzalez Mendez won over Ayrton Wibowo 6-3, 6-1. Florida State took a 3-0 advantage as Andres Bucaro defeated Dominique Maden at number-three singles 6-4, 6-2.

The Seminoles clinched the match and took a 4-0 lead when Dominic Cotrone defeated Cedric Willems 7-6, 6-4 at the number-six match.

From this point the Tigers won the next three singles matches. At number-five singles, Hunter Harrington of Clemson defeated Anderson Reed 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

At number-one singles Yannick Maden defeated Jordan Kelly-Houston 7-5, 7-6. Maden is now 21-5 this season in singles play and is ranked 49th nationally in singles. In the final match off the court, the Tigers’ Gerardo Meza defeated Blake Davis 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 at number-two singles.

Clemson will play at William & Mary on Wednesday. Next weekend, Clemson will play host to Maryland on Friday, and Boston College on Sunday in ACC action.
