#26 Tribe of William & Mary Upsets #16 Clemson, 6-1

Williamsburg, Va – The Clemson women’s tennis team, ranked 16th by the ITA, fell to the #26 Tribe of William & Mary on Sunday by a score of 6-1. The Tigers drop to 5-5 for the season while the Tribe is now 6-1 overall.

Julie Coin won her match at the No.1 singles position for Clemson’s only winner. She defeated #48 Megan Moulton-Levy, 6-3, 6-2, for her ninth consecutive singles victory. The senior from Amiens, France is now 18-2 overall.

However, William & Mary dominated the rest of the lineup. At the No.2 singles position, the Tigers’ Romy Farah fell to #39 Megan Muth, 7-5, 6-0, while Maria Brito fell to Lena Sherbakov in a tough third-singles match, 7-6(9), 4-6, 1-0(6). The Tribe’s Candice Fuchs defeated Carol Salge, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4, at the No.4 match. In the No.5 contest, Lingda Yang defeated Clemson’s Ioana Paun, 6-3, 6-3, and Richele LeSaldo fell to William & Mary’s Alex de Guzman, 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-4 at No.6.

The Tribe won all three doubles matches for the point. Coin and Farah fell to the #25 tandem of Fuchs and Moulton-Levy, 8-6, in the No.1 match-up. At the No.2 slot, Muth and Yang defeated Daniela Alvarez and Brito, 8-6, and Kate Boomershire and Shebakov were victorious over Paun and Salge at No.3, 8-5.

The Tigers return home for a conference match against Georgia Tech on Thursday, Mar. 3. The teams will take to the court at 2:30 PM.
