Clemson, SC – The 21st-ranked Tiger women’s tennis team dominated the Wolfpack of NC State on Saturday afternoon, 7-0. Clemson bettered its season record to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the ACC, while NC State fell to 7-4 for the season and 0-1 in conference matches. Julie Coin extended her winning streak to 13 matches and improved her singles record to 22-2 overall.
The Tigers won all three doubles contests to take a 1-0 advantage into singles play. The 40th-ranked team of Julie Coin and Romy Farah defeated Barbara Orlay and Elin Stahl Johansson at the No.1 position, 8-3, while Maria Brito and Richele LeSaldo were victorious at No.2 over Danielle Stadelmann and Agustina Arechavelta, 8-4. The Wolfpack’s Julia Roach and Allison Barry fell to Ioana Paun and Carol Salge in the No.3 match-up, 8-0.
At the top singles slot, #2 Julie Coin overpowered Orlay, 6-2, 6-1. Farah, ranked 87th, defeated Johannson in the No.2 contest by a score of 6-2, 6-0, while Brito won her match at No.3 over Stadelmann, 6-2, 6-3. Salge dominated the No.4 match against Arechavaleta, allowing her opponent only one game in the victory, 6-0, 6-1. LeSaldo overcame a tough first set to post the win over Roach in the No.5 slot, 0-6, 6-1, 11-9, while the Wolfpack’s Carmen Torres fell to Ioana Paun by a score of 6-3, 6-1 at No.6.
The Tigers remain in the state of North Carolina for a match against #32 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem on Sunday, Mar. 13. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm.
