Trio of Tigers Added to 2025 Tewaaraton Award Watch List

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Tewaaraton Foundation announced on Thursday afternoon that Summer Agostino, Kayla MacLeod and Natalie Shurtleff would all be added onto the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. This is the first time any Clemson Lacrosse player has been named to the watch list.

The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse players in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation. Agostino, MacLeod and Shurtleff were all added after the initial watch list came out on February 6th. The full Tewaaraton Foundation press release can be found here.

This is Agostino’s second time being recognized this week after being named the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association National Defensive Player of the Week and the ACC Defensive Player of the Week after her efforts in upsetting the then-No. 5/6 Syracuse Orange. Agostino has been a menace for opposing offenses, causing a team-high 18 turnovers, the most caused turnovers in the ACC and top five in total and average nationally, along with 19 ground balls, the second-highest average in the ACC. Her contributions on defense has helped lead the Clemson defense to a NCAA top-10 scoring defense, the third best unit in ground ball pick ups in the ACC, and the best defense in the ACC in causing turnovers.

2024 ACC All-Freshman MacLeod makes her Tewaaraton Watch List debut after a dominating start to her sophomore campaign. The Georgia-native leads the team with 21 total points on 20 goals in the Tigers’ first six games, including two game-winning goals, three woman-up goals, and four free-position goals, all of which are team highs. Additionally, MacLeod leads the team with 32 shots on goal out of 42 total shots. In her six games played, MacLeod has recorded a hat trick in four of them, including a six goal effort in Clemson’s home opener against the Stetson Hatters in which she tied the Clemson Lacrosse record for the second-most goals in a single game.

Much like MacLeod, Shurtleff, another member of the 2024 ACC All-Freshman Team, has made her Tewaaraton Watch List debut after a fast start to her sophomore campaign. Shurtleff has 12 goals and three assists on the year so far, including two clutch free position goals and the game winning goal for a hat trick against then-No. 11 Notre Dame. The midfielder has additionally scored at least two goals in five of the Tigers six contests so far. On defense, Shurtleff has picked up five ground balls and caused five turnovers and has been an instrumental part of Clemson’s nationally-best draw unit with 12 draw controls to her name.

The Tigers return on Saturday, March 8th against the Duke Blue Devils at noon at the Clemson Lacrosse Complex. The game will serve as Clemson Lacrosse’s Military Appreciation Day where the first 500 fans will receive a free t-shirt. Tickets for the general public can be found here.
