Clemson Rowing Earns Five Top-Three Finishes at Big 10 Invitational

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Clemson Rowing program finished up two days of competition for the Big 10 Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida. The invitational was highlighted by five podium finishes for the Tigers in their 15 flights in which they raced.

“This was an awesome weekend of racing for the team,” said Head Rowing Coach Adrienne Martelli about the weekend. “I think throughout all boats we found a little more grit and had some really tight races where we had to be comfortable sitting side by side with another crew. There’s obviously still things to work on, but this was a great step. We’re looking forward to Lake Wheeler Invite which will have another three races.

The weekend was also pretty phenomenal to get to watch such tight racing across so many events. The depth and competitiveness in women’s rowing is truly exciting to witness. We’re grateful for the opportunity to get to race against so many other teams from across the country. A big thank you to the Big 10 group for hosting.”

On Friday, the Tigers started strong with the 2V4 having a third place finish over No. 21 Indiana, Notre Dame and Iowa with a time of 7:34.852. Clemson followed that up with a trio of fourth place finishes for the 1V4, 2V8 and 1V8 and again triumphed over Notre Dame and Iowa in each and had final times for the boats of 7:26.433, 6:40.724 and 6:30.661, respectively. The 3V8 closed out the morning session and started off the afternoon session with times of 7:05.449 and 7:17.929, respectively, and placed above No. 16 Duke in the afternoon portion.

Clemson started the afternoon slate off strong as well, propelled by the 2V4 earning a runner-up finish in the fourth flight and placed above No. 17 Oregon State with an official time of 7:32.172. The 1V4 followed that up with another third-place finish for the Tigers with a time of 7:27.997 and again finished above the Beavers. The 2V8 notched a 6:43.574 in a photo finish race and the 1V8 finished within half a second of No. 24 USC at 6:33.829 to close out the afternoon.
