Simpson Kirr Adds Two Transfers to 2024 Roster

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson Volleyball Head Coach Jackie Simpson Kirr announced the addition of Indigo Young and Kate Hansen to the 2024 roster on Tuesday. Young joins the Tigers as a graduate transfer after spending the previous four seasons at Charleston Southern, while Hansen just completed her freshman campaign at Texas Tech, and will be a sophomore in the fall of 2024. Both are set to join the program at the beginning of the spring semester.

Simpson Kirr stated, “The combination of Indigo and Kate will provide great depth in our middle position and continue to elevate our front line.”

  • Appeared in 88 matches, playing 334 sets with the Buccaneers
  • Tallied 680 kills to average 2.04 per set
  • Finished her career at Charleston Southern with a .325 hitting percentage (ranks second)
  • Led the Big South in hitting percentage in 2022 (.371) and 2023 (.386)
  • Clocked 205 total blocks (43 solo, 162 assisted) averaging 0.61 per set
  • Had 819 points on her career, including 309 during her junior campaign
  • Was a two-time Big South Player of the Week
  • Named to the Big South All-Freshman Team in 2020 and Big South All-Conference Second Team in 2022
  • CSU Volleyball Team Captain in 2023
  • Had a career-high 20 kills vs. USC Upstate on Sept. 29, 2023
  • Clocked a career-high .682 hitting percentage vs. N.C. A&T going 16-for-20 with only one error on Sept. 1, 2023
  • 2023 All-Academic Team
  • Before Charleston Southern, she graduated from Harrison High School where she was named to the GHSA 6A All-State team
  • VCA Under Armor All-American Watch List, Named All-Region player, the HHS Offensive Player of the Year and team captain in 2018 and 2019
  • Was a state champion in 2016 and 2017 at Harrison and finished her career with 622 kills, 278 blocks and a .410 hitting percentage

“Indigo is a super dynamic middle who is quick and hard for opponents to defend,” said Simpson Kirr. “She runs a lot of different routes which fits our offensive system well. Her experience as a leader on and off the court will continue to help our program move forward.”

  • Played and started in 21 matches for Texas Tech before her season was cut short due to injury
  • Led all Power 5 freshmen and ranked 36th nationally at 1.27 blocks per set
  • Led the Red Raiders with 99 blocks
  • Was top three in the Big 12 for blocks per set (1.27)
  • Was second in the Big 12 for solo blocks (20)
  • Recorded a career-high 11 blocks in her collegiate debut against Houston Christian
  • Helped the Red Raiders upset Kansas with a career-high eight kills and 15 points
  • Recorded five or more blocks in 12 matches
  • Finished the season with 75 kills, 15 aces and 149.5 points
  • Broke the single-game record at Weatherford HS with 27 kills in a match while eclipsing over 1,000 kills in her career
  • Named to the TGCA All-State 6A Team three times at Weatherford HS
  • Was a First-Team All-State selection as a junior by PrepDig and District 3-6A Block of the Year
  • Set the Weatherford HS single-season block record twice – as a sophomore with 148 and as a junior with 149
  • Named District MVP, to the TGCA All-State Team and tho the FROSH 59, an award given to the best varsity-playing freshmen in America
  • Named to the AVCA Phenom Watch List
  • Played club ball with TAV 17 Black and helped the TAV 16 Black team to a Girls Junior Open National Championship (GJNC)

“Kate is an impressive blocker with per set numbers matching Adria Powell from last season,” said Simpson Kirr. “She will bring a critical element to our defense at the net. Her drive to be the best and desire to be in an environment where everyone is on a mission will fit our program well.”
