CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson volleyball tallied a program-record seven Tigers on the 2022 All-ACC Academic Team, the conference office announced Tuesday. Clemson’s seven selections surpasses the program’s previous record of four set in 2021 and was led by third-year selection Mckenna Slavik and second-year selection Ani Clark. The other five honorees, Sophie Catalano, Azyah Dailey, Colleen Finney, Becca Micelle and Devan Taylor made their All-ACC Academic Team debuts.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0-grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the team.
Slavik (Saint Charles, Ill.) completed her senior season as a communications major. She appeared in 28 games and was an All-ACC Second Team selection and College Sports Communicator Academic All-District selection. Most notably this season, Slavik tallied 3,863 career assists to sit fifth all-time on Clemson’s career list and looks to build upon that when she returns to the roster in the fall of 2023.
Clark (Wheaton, Ill.) completed her playing career while majoring in management and led the team in 2022 with a .296 hitting percentage. Finney (Blythewood, S.C.) appeared in 31 games and led the Tigers with 79 blocks, including 15 solo blocks, and graduated in December with a degree in philosophy. Taylor (Spring, Texas) was Clemson’s starting libero and clocked 489 digs in 2022 to lead both the Tigers and the conference while tallying double-digit digs in 24 matches and majoring in bioengineering.
Catalano (Pittsburgh, Pa. – pre-business), Dailey (Port Charlotte, Fla. – sociology) and Micelle (Naples, Fla. – sports communication) rounded out the first-time selections and combined to play in 247 sets last season with 229 digs, 92 kills and 37 aces.
Clemson has had 23 Tigers selected garner 40 selections since the award began in 2005. The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
