CLEMSON, S.C.-Clemson will play seven home games, including a non-conference meeting with the University of Missouri in the year 2000. The Tigers will open the season on September 2 against The Citadel, the first of three home games to open the new century. Missouri will come to Clemson on September 9, the return game for Clemson’s trip to Missouri in 1996. Wake Forest will be Clemson’s first league opponent. The 1999 bowl bound Demon Deacons come to Clemson on September 16.
“Having seven home games scheduled for next year is good. We need to have seven scheduled. I really like the way our schedule looks for next year,” said head coach Tommy Bowden. “We play 10 staight weeks next year and that is good unless you have injuries. I have had that exact same schedule before and the results have been positive. Having a week off after Florida State will definitely help us before we have to play our in-state rival. I would like to get our program to the level of somebody like Nebraska, where they sell out every game no matter who they play.”
Clemson’s first of four ACC road games will be at Virginia on September 23, while Clemson will play its fifth game in September on September 30 at Duke.
Clemson will play four games in October and three of those will be home conference games. NC State will come to Death Valley on October 7 and the Tigers will be out to avenge consecutive losses to the Wolfpack. Maryland will be at Death Valley on October 14 in hopes of a win in Death Valley for the first time since 1985. Then Clemson travels to North Carolina for an October 21st contest. Georgia Tech and Clemson will meet in Death Valley on October 28th. The two teams have played four straight games that have been decided by exactly three points.
Clemson has just two games in the month of November. Bowden Bowl II will be in Tallahassee on November 4. The Tigers will have two weeks to prepare for the annual rivalry game with South Carolina, which will be played at Clemson on November 18th. Clemson plays on 10 consecutive Saturdays before its November 11 open date.
