CLEMSON, SC – The #12 Clemson women’s tennis team defeated the University of South Carolina by a score of 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The win is the Tigers’ fifth straight over the Gamecocks in the series and gives Clemson a 24-22 advantage all-time.

The Tigers started the day by capturing the doubles point. Maria Belaya and Keri Wong took the number one doubles match with a 9-7 win, despite trailing 6-4 earlier in the match.

In singles, Caroline Magnusson started things off for the Tigers with a win at flight six. Magnusson trailed 3-0 in the first set, but rallied to win 6-3. She went on to win the second set 6-1 to take the match.

No. 37 Keri Wong followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win at number two singles over 121st-ranked Dijana Stojic to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

South Carolina won the next three matches at the number three, four and five singles flights to tie the match at 3-3. This made the number one singles match the deciding match of the day.

In that match, #14 Josipa Bek went head-to-head with #56 Anya Morgina. Morgina won the first set 6-3. Bek countered by taking the second set 6-1 to force the deciding third set. In the final set, Bek jumped out to a 4-1 lead before Morgina took the next two games to make it 4-3. However, Bek went right back to work and took the next two games to win the match and the set 6-3, and clinch the 4-3 victory for the Tigers.

Clemson will return to action at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 2 as the team begins ACC play against Georgia Tech at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Admission to the match is free of charge.
