March 2, 2011

CLEMSON, SC – The 11th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team (10-4, 0-1 ACC) fell to #21 Georgia Tech (6-4, 1-1 ACC) 5-2 at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon. The match was the Tigers’ fifth straight against a ranked opponent.

The Tigers started the day by winning at flight three doubles, as Caroline Magnusson and Nelly Ciolkowski defeated Lilley/Wacker by a score of 9-7. The Yellow Jackets took the next two doubles matches, though, to take the doubles point.

Georgia Tech won at number two singles to go up 3-1 in the match. #15 Josipa Bek brought the Tigers closer by defeating #84 Viet Ha Ngo 6-4, 7-5 at flight one.

The match was decided in the flight three and four singles matches, which both went to three sets. The Tigers were unable to overcome the strong play of the Yellow Jackets and fell in both matches.

Clemson will return to action on Sunday when the team takes on 12th-ranked Miami (FL) at noon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Admission to the match is free.
