CLEMSON, SC – Clemson women’s tennis players Kathryn Gerber and Samantha Eppelsheimer were named ITA Scholar Athletes for the 2006-07 school year. The award is Gerber’s second as she was also a 2005-06 honoree, while Eppelsheimer is a first-time recipient.

Gerber, a junior biological sciences major from Vienna, WV, owned a 2-5 singles record during the 2006 fall season. She joins Ana Stiglic as the only two-time award-winners in program history.

Eppelsheimer, an animal and veterinary sciences major, posted a 3-5 singles record for the year and won her only match during the spring season. The Mt. Pleasant, SC native defeated Nicole Shaw of Troy in front of a hometown crowd at the Family Circle Cup Tennis Center on Daniel Island in March.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
