GYM: No. 16 Clemson Posts Season-Best 197.025 Against North Carolina

CLEMSON, S.C. – The 16th-ranked Clemson Gymnastics program posted a 197.025, its third-best score in its young history, in its dual meet win over No. 12 North Carolina on Friday night in Littlejohn Coliseum in its annual Pink Meet. The Tigers (2-3, 1-2 ACC, 196.390 average) had season-highs in all four events and improved by 0.725 in their last competition against Stanford. The Tar Heels scored a 196.375, just below their season average of 196.533 entering the meet. 

Brie Clark, who entered the meet ranked third in the nation on floor, posted her second consecutive 9.950 to match a school record, and also added a 9.750 on vault, 9.875 on beam. Ella Cesario competed in the all-around and scored a 9.800 or better in each event, and her 39.450 was the third-highest all-around score in program history. Graduate Tara Walsh tied for her career high on beam, scoring a 9.875, and also added a 9.875 on vault and a 9.800 on floor. 

Vault: 49.075

This was the Tigers overall highest score on vault this season. Brie Clark opened the meet for the Tigers with a 9.750 and competed in a Kasamatsu. Madison Minner followed with a 9.800, performing her Yurchenko tucked 1.5. Maggie Holman (9.850) and Ella Cesario (9.800) came next with 9.850. Tara Walsh followed them and scored a 9.875. 

Bars: 49.300

Lilly Lippeatt and Hannah Clark led the Tigers off strong at the start, each scoring a 9.850. Emma Malewski followed and scored a 9.875, her best score so far this season. Eve Jackson stepped up on the beam and posted 9.825. Ella Cesario (9.900) and Takoda Berry (8.950) finished the rotation for the Tigers helping them reach their third highest score on bars in their history. 

Beam: 49.325

Tara Walsh, Brie Clark, Ella Cesario, and Quinn Kuhl all earned 9.875s in helping the Tigers to a 49.325, tied for the second-best in school history. Lilly Lippeatt (9.825) also added on to give the Tigers momentum heading into the fourth and final rotation. Additionally, Emma Malewski matched the 9.875 during her exhibition performance.  

Floor: 49.325

All six competitors in the lineup put up a 9.775 or higher, with Brie Clark’s 9.950 leading the way. Lilly Lippeatt started the rotation with a 9.775. Maggie Holman and Ella Cesario followed and each scored a 9.875. Tara Walsh (9.800) and Eve Jackson (9.825) gave the Tigers the boost to surpass the 197-point mark. .

Up Next

The Tigers will stay at home and compete against No. 20 California on Feb. 7, and then travel to Pittsburgh for a meet on Feb. 15.
