Q & A With Candice Hein

Feb. 22, 2005

The latest session of women’s soccer Q&A welcomes midfielder Candice Hein. The red-shirt sophomore is a Highlands Ranch, CO, native majoring in Civil engineering.

1. How did you get your start in soccer and who has inspired you to play to the level you are at today? My brother played soccer, so I would go watch him play because I wanted to be like him.

2. Was it a hard transition to attend a college in the south, when growing up in Colorado? The culture is different, but a college town is the same pretty much everywhere. I just miss the mountains and the snow.

3. Tell people a little about your hometown of Highlands Ranch, Colorado Well all the cool people come from there, so it is pretty much the greatest place ever. It is about an hour from the mountains, 30 minutes from the lake, and 30 minutes from the city so there is always lots of fun things to do. But it changes every time I go home now because it is growing so fast, I don’t even recognize it.

4. What is your favorite subject here at Clemson and why? I kind of liked Geomatics… ok that is nerdy, Guitar was pretty fun…

5. How is spring practice going? What is a typical day for you? Now that we get to practice it is real fun. I am excited for 4v4 because the “Ligers” are going to dominate! Gosh. A typical day is wake up, practice, class, lab, eat, hw, maybe do something crazy, sleep for a bit

6. What was your favorite soccer memory of this past fall season? Beating Texas A&M in front of a huge crowd. And seeing Paige’s bum hang out for about 10 seconds.

7. What is your favorite season and why? Winter… gotta love snowboarding.

8. What is something that your parents told you was true when you were little that you completely believed? That I was adopted… well that was more my brother, but I still believed it.

9. What will you not eat? I am a garbage disposal, but I don’t really like things that are still kicking.

10. What is your biggest pet peeve? People who lie, and people who talk bad behind others backs.

11. What is the biggest hoax or prank you’ve ever pulled on someone or vice versa? Well… this one time I just found a bucket full of water and thought it was the freshman’s so I set it up against their door. Somehow it fell over when they opened the door.

12. What is your favorite movie of all-time? Lion King/ Forces of Nature/Crazy Beautiful

13. What is something surprising about you? I have gone skydiving

14. If you could have four people over for dinner, who would they be? Tim McGraw, Matt Damon, Shaun White, Todd Bramble

15. What is the best nickname you’ve ever been given, who gave it to you and why? Dice… that is credit to Yardi

16. What is your favorite sports team of all-time? Colorado Avalanche/ Clemson Women’s Soccer

17. What is the best sporting event you have ever gone to? My U-9 Little League Championship… Go Strikers!

18. Is there a player or players on the team that you admire and why? No. JK, I wish I could nutmeg people like Allison and twirl around people like Lydia.

19. What is one toy you wished you could have had but never received? Power Wheels Corvette

20. What is something you’ve learned about yourself since coming to Clemson? Family is very important because they are always going to be there. I’ve learned that the mistakes I have made have made me into the person I am today.
