Volleyball Heads to Virginia Saturday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson volleyball team (14-13, 5-9 ACC) travels to Virginia (7-17, 3-11) Saturday to face the Cavaliers for the second and final time of the 2018 season. Saturday’s matchup is set for 7 p.m., and is scheduled to stream on ACC Network Extra. The Tigers hold the all-time series, 40-22, dating back to the inaugural matchup in 1981.

Clemson defeated the Cavaliers in four sets last Friday (Nov. 2) in Jervey Gym as The Tigers posted their best blocking performance of the season with 13.0 blocks. Redshirt sophomore Brooke Bailey totaled a match-high 14 kills for the then-fifth consecutive match. Additionally, freshman Ava Pritchard registered a match-high eight blocks assists, which is currently the most by a Tiger this season. Two days later, Clemson fell to No. 10 Pittsburgh in a closely contested four-set match. The Tigers again tied their season high of 13.0 blocks against the Panthers. Bailey and freshman Solei Thomas tallied 15 kills each. Thomas also hit a career-high .467, while freshman setter Gabby Easton chipped in 45 assists.

Clemson is 13-15 all-time at Virginia and has fallen in the last four meetings against the Cavaliers on the road.

After its 3-1 loss to the Tigers in Jervey Gym a week ago, Virginia dropped another four-setter to Georgia Tech in Atlanta last Sunday. Virginia will play in back-to-back nights after hosting in-state rival Virginia Tech Friday evening before entertaining Clemson on Saturday. Virginia is led by sophomore outside hitter Sarah Billiard, who is averaging 3.52 kills, which is good for eighth in the ACC.
