GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Clemson track and field program completed their second split weekend of the outdoor season as the Tigers wrapped up the Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. on Saturday.
Two school records were set this weekend as sophomore Gladys Chepngetich set the new record in the 800 meters at Tom Jones with a time of 1:59.68 as she ran the fastest time for Clemson in a collegiate meet. The time is the second fastest time in NCAA so far this season.
At the Bryan Clay Invite, freshman Silvia Jelelgo improved her time in the 5000 meters, where she already held the school record at 16:00.93. Jelelgo ran 15:43.03 to set the new fastest time in program history.
Along with the two school records, six other Tigers recorded new personal best times and marks to improve or move their spots on Clemson’s top ten list.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
- At the Tom Jones Invite, Chepngetich set the new school record in the women’s 800 meters
- Oneka Wilson secured a first place finish in the women’s 100 meter hurdles at Tom Jones as she ran the fastest time of the day at 13.06 which is her seasons best
- Silvia Jelelgo set the school record time in the women’s 5000 meters at Bryan Clay after running a personal best of 15.43.03. Jelelgo previously held the record in the event at 16:00.93
- Charles Bissonnette improved his top ten mark in the men’s discus after throwing 51.95m at Tom Jones to keep him at No. 9 all-time for Clemson
- At the Bryan Clay Invite, Emily Lamontagne ran 16:31.96 to improve her top ten time in the 5000 meters as she holds the No. 9 spot
- Judy Kosgei ran the second fastest time in program history in the women’s 800 meters as she secured a personal best time of 2:00.29 at Tom Jones
- Brian Kweyei added his name to the all-time list in the 800 meters as he ran 1:46.92 at Tom Jones to place him No. 5 all-time for Clemson
- Sawyer Dagan recorded a new personal best in the men’s 10,000 meters as he ran 29:14.27 at Bryan Clay to jump to No. 4 on the top ten list
- Brynne Sumner improved her top ten time as she ran 4:15.90 in the women’s 1500 meters at Bryan Clay to jump to sixth on Clemson’s list
- The women’s 4×100 relay team ran their second fastest time of the season at Tom Jones as their time of 43.32 secured them a fourth place finish at Tom Jones
- The women’s 4×400 relay team ran 3:30.67 at Tom Jones to secure 10th place and enter the top ten list for Clemson No. 4
- Jordan Sowell finished second overall in the men’s triple jump at Tom Jones with a mark of 15.18m
