CLEMSON, SC – Clemson track & field standout Miller Moss finished sixth overall and third-best among seven competitors for Team USA this past weekend at the prestigious Thorpe Cup in Marburg, Germany. The Sumter, SC product tallied 7,606 points in the decathlon, but Team USA came up short as Germany took the Thorpe Cup for the first time in eight years.

Germany’s top five decathlon scores added up to 38,268 points, while Team USA’s five-man tally was 38,255. Thus, the Cup changed hands by a matter of a mere 13 points. Still, Moss had plenty of successful moments as the youngest member of the U.S. squad.

He got off to a great start on day one, clocking a 10.87 in the 100m dash, best among the entire field of competitors. In the second event, the long jump, he hit a mark of 23’5.5″. In the shot put, he produced a throw of 42’9″. He finished the day with a solid 6’4.25″ high jump and outstanding 400m dash time of 47.52. His 400m time was second-best among the participants.

On day two, Moss clocked a solid 14.79 into a slight headwind in the 110m high hurdles to get things started. After a discus throw of 122’10”, he jumped 14’5.5″ in the pole vault. He was solid in the javelin throw with a mark of 158’4″, before finishing out the grueling 10-event slate with a time of 4:32.17 in the 1500m run.

It put a close on a highly successful and consistent red-shirt junior outdoor campaign for Moss. He was the ACC runner-up in the decathlon with a school record 7,628 points. He followed with a 7,614 point total in a fourth-place USA Championships showing.
