CLEMSON, SC – The 20th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team defeated #60 Maryland on Saturday afternoon in a One Clemson…Solid Orange match at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The Tigers defeated the Terrapins by a score of 6-1 to improve Clemson’s record in Solid Orange…One Clemson events to 10-2 for the year. With the win, the Tigers improve to 14-3 overall and 3-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while Maryland falls to 5-7 (0-2 ACC).

Clemson swept the doubles matches to win the team doubles point. The Tigers’ 14th-ranked team of Maria Brito and Julie Coin defeated Maryland’s Marianne Baker and Neda Mihneva by a score of 8-5 at flight one. At number two doubles, the 17th-ranked pair of Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie of Clemson won an 8-5 decision over the Terrapins’ Ramona But and Jennifer Dent. Clemson’s Richele LeSaldo and Karen Rombouts were victorious at flight three doubles with an 8-1 win over Emily Marker and Masha Senic.

In singles play, ninth-ranked Coin defeated 60th-ranked But by a score of 6-1, 6-1 at flight one. Alvarez, ranked 63rd by the ITA in singles, won a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0(11-9) decision over #77 Marker at number two singles. The Tigers’ Brito lost a three-set decision to Dent at flight three (6-7, 7-6(11), 1-0(10-8)). At flight four singles, Rombouts defeated Baker by a score of 6-2, 6-1, while Lacelarie won a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Senic at flight five. At the number six singles position, LeSaldo defeated Chloe Chavardes of Maryland by a score of 6-2, 6-0.

Clemson will play host to Virginia on Sunday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The match between the Tigers and Cavaliers is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
