GREENVILLE, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team opened its fall season this weekend at the Furman Fall Classic.

At flight one singles, freshman Alix Lacelarie (Villeneuve-des-Beizieres, France) lost a first-round match to Vanderbilt’s Sarah Riske 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. In the first round of the consolation draw, Lacelarie dropped a 7-6 (6), 6-4 match to North Carolina’s Kate Pinchbeck. Lacelarie finished seventh overall, as she defeated Furman’s Megan dunigan 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 Sunday afternoon.

Milena Stanoycheva lost a 6-0, 6-4 match to South Carolina’s Katarina Markovski in the first round of flight two singles. She also lost her second-round match to Middle Tennessee State’s Verena Preiss, 6-2, 7-6 (5). Stanoycheva also finished seventh, as her oppenent, Katie Dougherty, defaulted due to injury after losing the first set 6-3.

Clemson’s Ana Stiglic lost 7-5, 6-3 to Furman’s Natalie The, 7-5, 6-3 in flight three singles. Wisconsin’s Katie McGaffigan defeated Stiglic 7-5, 6-4 in the consolation bracket. Stiglic defeated Iowa’s Deni Alexandrova, 8-3, to claim seventh place.

At flight four singles, Sunnie Harmon lost 6-1, 6-1 to Pascale Veraverbeke of Iowa. Vanderbilt’s Kori Scott defeated Harmon in her first round of the consolation draw 6-4, 6-2. Harmon won her final match 6-3, 6-2 over Middle Tennessee’s Michaela Gridling to finish seventh.

Junior Laurence Jayet won a three-set match (4-6, 6-3, 6-1) over Wisconsin’s Lindsay Martin in the first round of the flight five singles. Jayet also won her second round match 7-6 (4), 6-1 over Iowa’s Steffi Hoch to advance to the flight championships. South Carolina’s Jodi Kenoyer defeated Jayet 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the finals of the main draw.

At flight six singles, Anna Savitskaya defeated South Carolina’s Catherine Brown, 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-0 in the first round. Savitskaya defeated Audra Faulk of Vanderbilt in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-3, to advance to Sunday’s finals. She claimed the flight championship with a 6-4, 7-6 win over North Carolina’s Kendall Cline.

The Tigers’ Ashlea Bowen and Anna Dolinska competed in the flight seven singles draw. Bowen lost her first round match, 6-4, 6-3 to South Carolina’s Magda Wojdyto, and won her first round in the consolation bracket 6-3, 6-0 over Middle Tennessee State’s Emily Vest. Bowen finished fifth after McCall Holman defaulted due to injury. Dolinska won her first round match over South Carolina’s Audrey George, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0. She lost her second round match 6-2, 6-2 to Tamara Sutton (South Carolina).

In flight one doubles, Lacelarie and Jayet lost a 9-8 match to Middle Tennessee State’s Kruce and Varnell. The defeated Iowa’s Neykova and Haas to advance to the consolation bracket finals, and claimed fifth place with an 8-4 win over North Carolina’s Rotondi and Mojzis.

Freshman Richele LeSaldo and Savitskaya lost their first round match at flight two doubles to Iowa’s Alexandrova and Hoch, 8-6. South Carolina’s Kenoyer and Tan defeated LeSaldo and Savitskaya 8-5 to send the Tigers to the seventh-eighth place playoff. Clemson defeated Furman’s Kovarik and Thomson, 8-5 to take seventh in the tournament.

At flight three doubles, Stanoycheva and Stiglic lost to Furman’s Hagood and Cochran, 8-4, in their first round match. The Tigers rebounded in the consolation bracket, defeating Middle Tennessee State’s Venter and Buchheim 8-3. Stanoycheva and Stiglic claimed fifth place with an 8-3 win over Iowa’s Okino and Veraverbeke.

In flight four round robin doubles, Clemson’s Harmon and Dolinska lost their first round match 8-3 to South Carolina’s George and Sutton. They also lost an 8-6 match to Wisconsin’s Cogger and MTSU’s Vest. In their final match, Harmon and Dolinska defeated Clemson’s Bowen and North Carolina’s Koenig, 8-4. Koenig and Bowen defeated Cogger and Vest, 8-5 but lost 8-4 to South Carolina’s George and Sutton.
