Clemson, Byrd Sign Two for 2026-27

Tigers sign Gabriel Holtz and Daniel McBrien

CLEMSON, S.C. – Head Coach Jordan Byrd announced the addition of Gabriel Holtz (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Daniel McBrien (Holly Springs, N.C./Apex Friendship) to the Clemson University men’s golf program and will begin playing in the fall of 2026.

Holtz, originally from Brazil, has 30+ wins in junior tournaments. In 2025, he has four victories and two more top two finishes. He won the Underrated Golf Tour, SFPGA Junior Championship, SFPGA Hammock Creek and SFPGA Osprey Point.

He was the 2021 and 2022 South American Championship winner. He totaled four top five finishes in 2023, and a top 10 finish at the AJGA Adam Scott Junior Championship where he turned in the best round of the tournament with a 67 on Sunday.

In 2023 Holtz was the U.S. Junior Amateur co-medalist. Holtz earned seven top five finishes in 2024.

“Gabriel is an incredible young man that has this infectious attitude to go along with his powerful game,” said Byrd. “He has won a bunch of tournaments in South Florida against some great competition, shooting some very low scores. He loves competing and I believe when he gets around a team full of guys that are all working to get better, Gabriel will take it to another level. We know Gabe will come in and work hard and make our team better with his attitude and ability.”

McBrien currently ranks No. 41 in his class, No.3 in North Carolina, and No. 79 in the Rolex AJGA rankings, earning top three finishes at the Billy Horschel Atlanta Classic and Visit Goldsboro NC Junior Championship. He was the CGA Creed Invitational champion.

He was the runner-up in the 2023 North-South Junior Amateur. He has earned three AJGA top five finishes, five AJGA top 10’s, has been a two-time Conference Player of the Year and was the North Carolina 4A State Champion as a freshman.

“Daniel is a very gifted player, and he has the ability to shoot some low scores. He is an elite ball striker who works tirelessly on his game with a great instructor in Chase Duncan. Coach Castles and I tried to make a real emphasis with this class on players that truly loved golf, and we have that with Daniel. We know this by his work ethic in practice and in how many events he competes in. Daniel will come to Clemson ready to compete for a spot in the lineup and make our team better.”
