CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior righthander Lucas Mahlstedt was picked in the seventh round (No. 199 overall) of the MLB draft by the Los Angeles Angels on Monday afternoon. Mahlstedt joined Cam Cannarella, who was selected by the Miami Marlins in the Competitive Balance Round A (No. 43 overall) on Sunday night, as Tigers who were drafted in 2025.
Mahlstedt (Ormond Beach, Fla.), the first Tiger drafted by the Angels since 2024 (Austin Gordon), was third in the nation in saves with 15, also tied for the school record, on his way to earning first-team All-America honors in 2025. He became the first Tiger reliever to earn All-America honors since 2018 (Ryley Gilliam) and the first Clemson reliever to earn first-team All-America accolades since 2016 (Pat Krall). Mahlstedt was 4-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 61 strikeouts against eight walks in 48.0 innings pitched.
In two years as a Tiger, Mahlstedt was 8-2 with a 3.91 ERA in 101.1 innings pitched over 55 relief outings. He had 16 saves, tied for sixth in Clemson history, and 100 strikeouts against 23 walks, good for a 4.35 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Mahlstedt, who had a 3.73 GPA in two years (2024,25) at Clemson, earned his degree in physics on May 9. He was the 2025 ACC Baseball Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year and a second-team Academic All-American by CSC. With that selection, he became the first Tiger in history to be an All-American on and off the field in the same year.
One Clemson signee was drafted on Monday. Lefthander Nicholas Frusco (Miller Place, N.Y) was picked in the 20th round (No. 593 overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He joined infielder Dax Kilby (Newnan, Ga.), who was selected in the Competitive Balance Round A (No. 39 overall) by the New York Yankees on Sunday, as Tiger signees chosen in the draft.
