Wake Forest Notches Win Over Clemson

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Clemson women’s soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Thursday evening at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. With the loss, the Tigers moved to 9-7 overall and 4-4 in the ACC, while Wake Forest improved to 7-7-1 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Four minutes into the second half, Bayley Feist sent a pass through to Giovanna DeMarco who got behind the Clemson defense. DeMarco then beat Tiger keeper Sandy MacIver to give the Demon Deacons a 2-0 advantage early in the second.

OF NOTE

  • Junior Julie Mackin scored the lone Clemson goal in the 76th minute, her first of the season and the fourth of her career.
  • Redshirt senior forward Miranda Weslake played all 90 minutes against the Demon Deacons, and recorded the assist on Mackin’s goal. Weslake leads the team in scoring with seven goals and two assists for 16 points.
  • The loss was Clemson’s first loss on the road since Aug. 23, a 1-0 loss at No. 10 South Carolina.
  • MacIver posted five saves against the Demon Deacons, and now has 33 on the season.

UP NEXT
Clemson travels north to Blacksburg, Va. for a Sunday matchup against the Virginia Tech Hokies. The match is set to kickoff at 1 p.m. at Thompson Field. The Tigers close out the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 25 on the road against Syracuse.
