Clemson Closes Out Regular Season at Syracuse on Thursday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s soccer team is set to travel to New York to face the Syracuse Orange on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. for the final match of the regular season. After Thursday’s match, the ACC will announce the eight teams that will be competing in the ACC Tournament.

Clemson Notes:

  • Clemson most recently saw action on Sunday afternoon in a 3-1 road victory over Virginia Tech.
  • The win marked the first win at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Va. since the first meeting between the two programs on Oct. 6, 2004, when the Tigers defeated the Hokies 1-0.
  • Redshirt senior forward Miranda Weslake leads the team in scoring with eight goals and three assists on the year, good for 19 points. Sophomore forward Mariana Speckmaier also has eight goals while adding one assist for 17 points.
  • Staab leads the team in assists, as she earned her ninth of the season on Sunday. She is currently fifth in the Clemson record books for career assists with 31.
  • Staab was the only collegiate player called up to the U.S. U23 Women’s National Team for the 2018 Nordic Tournament that took place from Aug. 29-Sept. 3. The San Diego, Calif. native scored the team’s game-winning goal in the 1-0 win over Norway to secure the USA’s first-place finish.
  • Junior goalkeeper Sandy MacIver is 8-4-0 on the season with six solo shutouts. She has 39 saves in her 1,189 minutes in net for Clemson, a goals against average of .910 and a save percentage of .765.
  • The Winsford, England native missed the first four matches of the season as she was in France, where she represented England’s women’s national team and earned a bronze medal at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

 Syracuse Notes:

  • The Orange are 3-14 overall and are coming off a 3-0 loss at Wake Forest on Oct. 21.
  • Syracuse has scored 11 goals this season, five coming in conference play, with three coming in one a single match against No. 23 NC State that the Cuse lost 3-6.
  • Leading the offense for Syracuse is sophomore Kate Hostage with four goals and two assists, good for 10 points.
  • Jordan Harris has started 12 of her 15 matches in net for the Orange this season. The redshirt senior keeper has 64 saves, a save percentage of .660, one shutout and a goals against average of 2.80.

Series Notes:

  • Clemson has a 4-0-1 record in the series against Syracuse, dating back to 2013.
  • The last regular season meeting between the two teams was a 0-0 draw on Sept. 24, 2017 at SU Soccer Stadium.
