05. The Program

MEN'S GOLF

Clemson has won the ACC Championship 11 times (including a co-championship in 1990). Clemson won the title in 1982, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2016 and 2021. Clemson has finished in the top four of the event for 15 of the last 22 years.

06: 2003 National Championship

2003 National Champions

Jack Ferguson two-putted from 20 feet away on the last hole to give the Clemson golf team its first ever national championship at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla. The Tigers finished +39 for the tournament fended off Oklahoma State, which was playing on its home course, by two strokes to secure the title. It was Clemson’s first national championship in a team sport since 1987.

07: Two Individual National Champions

Turk Pettit (2021) and Charles Warren (1997)

MAy 31, 1997 — Charles Warren became the first Clemson golfer to win the NCAA Tournament when he shoots a five-under-par 279 at Conway Farms in Lake Forest, Ill. Warren shot a 67 in the final round to tie Brad Elder of Texas for the 72 holes. He then wins the first playoff hole, the par five 18th, with a par. He never had the lead by himself in the entire tournament until he putted out on the playoff hole. /// May 31, 2021—On the final day of Larry Penley’s 38-year Clemson head coaching career, Turk Pettit wins the NCAA Individual championship with a 273 score for four rounds at Grayhawk Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. He defeated Bo Jin of Oklahoma State by one shot. Three years later he was the national champion.
