Yesterday was a day to give back for many of Clemson’s student-athletes. Together with Clemson’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), student-athletes shopped for Christmas presents for local youth in need and wrapped them.
“The teams are more than willing to participate, they look forward to this event every year,” said Kyra Lobbins, Clemson’s assistant director of student-athlete development and leader of SAAC.
This is the second consecutive year in which SAAC has worked together with the Clemson Community of Care. All presents wrapped during this event go to the Winter Wonderland event.
Teams can select different youth and shop for specific things that each child has asked for. There were participants from every Clemson varsity sport, including the ACC champion men’s soccer program, baseball program and football program.
With all Clemson students working through final exams this week, this event comes as a nice distraction for a few hours, said Lobbins.
“I have it this time of year, during finals week, to hopefully give our student-athletes a break from studying,” Lobbins said. “They don’t have to worry about dinner, wrapping paper, anything. Hopefully this is more like a stress reliever for all of them.”
