Women’s Track & Field Posts Three Regional Marks at Yellow Jacket Invite

March 31, 2007

Atlanta, GA – The Lady Tiger track & field team posted three regional-qualifying marks Saturday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on the campus of Georgia Tech. The meet, held at the George C. Griffin Track, was highlighted for Clemson by Linda Buchholz’ record-setting performance in the javelin throw.

Buchholz, a multi-event athlete from Germany, broke the school record in the javelin with a throw of 152’5″. The previous best was 145’9″ by Kammie Blount in 1999. Buchholz finished runner-up with her regional-qualifying effort. Bethanie Wachna improved on her personal best in that event with a throw of 141’5″, which was good enough for a fourth-place finish. Liane Weber had a throw of 140’6″, which ranks fourth in school history.

Ra’Sheena was seventh in the 100m dash after matching her personal best at 12.02 seconds. Thea Dix placed in the top 10 of the 800m run with a time of 2:18.04.

Krystal Barringer posted her first-ever regional mark in the 100m high hurdles. She finished fifth overall with a time of 13.89, which ranks second-best on the team this season. Polly Hardy had a time of 13.98. Sierra Hill placed fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.97.

The 4x100m relay team placed third Saturday with a time of 46.06. The group consisted of Hardy, Parker, Patrice McMillan, and Weber finished sixth.

McMillan performed well in the 1500m run for Clemson, finishing in sixth place out of 36 competitors. She posted a time of 4:38.52, easily a personal best for the native of Brookfield, WI. In the 5000m, Laura Laughlin was ninth with a time of 18:04.41.

Anni Korhonen both cleared season bests at 5’5″.

Beth Jordan finished runner-up in the pole vault with a clearance of 11’11.75″. Caroline Kennedy cleared 11’5.75″ in that event Saturday. Nakeisha Wineglass came up just short of a regional standard in the triple jump. The freshman hit a personal best mark of 40’3.25″ and finished tied for seventh.

Della Clark, in her first action since earning All-America honors in the indoor weight throw, placed fifth overall at 174’9″.

Catheryne Porter was ninth in the discus throw with a mark of 144’7″, easily her personal best.

The Lady Tigers return to action next weekend to compete at home in the Clemson Invitational, which is scheduled for April 7 at the Rock Norman outdoor facility.
