Women’s Track & Field Celebrates 2011 ACC Outdoor Championship

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson athletic department held a celebration last Tuesday morning in the McFadden Building to honor the coaching staff of the women’s track & field team, which brought home its fourth straight ACC championship on April 23 in Durham, NC. ClemsonTigers.com caught up with Director of Track & Field Lawrence Johnson to get his thoughts on the championship showing by his women’s team, as well as the improvement displayed from Clemson’s fourth place men’s team. Special thanks to the ACC video services department for providing highlights of Clemson’s performances.

Some of the noteworthy accomplishments at the 2011 ACC outdoor meet were:

• Won program’s seventh overall team championship in women’s track & field

• Completed back-to-back sweep of the ACC indoor and outdoor team titles

• Scored 202 points, most-ever by a Tiger women’s team and the most by any school since North Carolina in 2003

• The point total was the highest by any school since the ACC moved to a 12-team membership in 2005

• Won by +69.5 point margin over second place Florida State, the largest margin of victory at an ACC outdoor championship meet since 2003

• Won seven out of 21 events, including Stormy Kendrick in the 100m & 200m dash, Marlena Wesh in the 400m dash, Kim Ruck in the 10,000 meters, April Sinkler in the high jump, Liane Weber in the heptathlon, and the 4×100 meter relay

• Had an additional 11 student-athletes earn All-ACC honors

• Produced ACC’s Most Valuable Track Performer in sophomore Stormy Kendrick and Most Valuable Field Performer in junior April Sinkler

• Established school records in the 100m dash (Kendrick), 3000m steeplechase (Alyssa Kulik), and pole vault (Lauren Terstappen)
