March 1, 2011

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s track & field team has re-entered the top 10 of the national computer ratings this week, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Tigers, fresh off their second consecutive ACC indoor team championship, are No. 9 in this week’s ratings.

Clemson jumped six spots in the ratings after settling in at No. 15 each of the past two weeks. The Tigers won the ACC indoor championship in convincing fashion, tallying 152 points versus 100.5 for runner-up Florida State.

The Tigers have several athletes listed among the top 20 across multiple events. Three athletes – Stormy Kendrick, Brianna Rollins and April Sinkler – have posted automatic NCAA qualifying marks. Kendrick is No. 3 on the 60m performance list, having clocked a 7.22 earlier this season. Rollins punched her ticket to NCAAs last weekend with a time of 8.13 in the prelims. Her time is seventh-best in the nation. Sinkler hit 21’1.5″ in the long jump, the third-best mark nationally.

In addition to the aforementioned auto qualifiers, the following individuals are among the national top 20: Kendrick is 19th in the 200m dash (23.29), Marlena Wesh is 11th in the 400m dash (53.10), Jasmine Edgerson is 12th in the 60 hurdles (8.17), Bridgette Owens is 17th in the 60 hurdles (8.21), Sinkler is 10th in the triple jump (42’11.75″), and Brittney Waller is seventh in the weight throw (68’2.5″).

The Clemson men’s team is also rated among the national top 25. It is the third straight week the Tigers have been listed in the computer ratings. The Tigers are No. 25 for the second straight week after debuting at No. 24 on Feb. 15. Miller Moss (5,903 pts) is the national leader in the heptathlon, and he is coming off his first ACC championship in the event over the weekend. Other members of the men’s team high in the national rankings are Spencer Adams (5th, 60m hurdles – 7.73) and Justin Murdock (14th, 60m dash – 6.65).
