CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team, currently ranked #27, will make the short trip to Athens, GA to face SEC rival and 18th-ranked Georgia on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The Tigers and Bulldogs will begin battle at 2:30 PM at the Dan Magill Complex. Clemson has compiled a 3-2 overall record for the 2006 season, while Georgia is 3-3 on the year.
The Tigers have claimed the doubles point four times this season, winning all three match-ups on three occasions. Two Clemson teams are undefeated as Carol Salge and Federica van Adrichem are 3-0 at the top doubles position and Daniela Alvarez and Alexandra Luc have also won three straight matches together at flight three.
Clemson leads the overall series score over Geogia, 19-17, but the Bulldogs have won the last nine match-ups and 16 of the last 17. The Tigers’ most recent victory over Georgia was in the NCAA Southeast Regional in Columbia, SC during the 1996 season. Clemson defeated the Bulldogs by a 5-4 margin that day. The Tigers last won a match over Georgia in Athens on Nov. 16, 1984 (5-4). Overall, Georgia holds a 10-6 advantage in matches played on its home court.
