Women’s Tennis Remains At #7 In Latest ITA Tennis Poll

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team held its #7 ranking for the second straight week, according to the Fila/ITA Tennis poll released on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers defeated Troy last weekend to improve to 12-2 on the year. Clemson also boasts a 3-0 record against ACC competition.

Three Tigers were also listed in the singles rankings with freshman Ani Mijacika leading the group at the #64 position. The Makarska, Croatia native has won her last six matches and currently owns a 16-5 overall record with an 11-2 mark in the dual season. Carol Salge moved up to 67th in this week’s poll, while Estefania Balda was listed at #85. The freshman from Guayaquil, Ecuador has compiled a 10-3 record since enrolling at Clemson in January.

Mijacika was also listed twice in the doubles rankings, as she and Federica van Adrichem jumped five spots to #7. The Tiger tandem is winners of its last six contests and owns an impressive 9-2 record during the dual season. Mijacika and Salge also moved up five positions to 12th in this week’s poll. They defeated Troy’s top team on Sunday in their first match together since the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships in October, which bettered their record to 7-2 overall. Finally, Maria Brito and Alexandra Luc was ranked 45th. The duo leads all Clemson teams with a 14-4 overall record, including an 11-2 mark in dual matches.

The Tigers will return to action on Friday as they welcome #15 Florida State to the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center for a 12:00 noon match-up.
