CLEMSON, SC – The 12th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team (10-2) will take on #14 Georgia Tech (6-2) in the ACC season-opener for both teams on Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the Bill Moore Tennis Center in Atlanta.
Clemson is coming off a Sunday win at #24 South Carolina, and is playing the second of three matches this week against top-25 opponents. The Tigers have played a challenging schedule so far, defeating six of their eight nationally-ranked opponents in non-conference play.
Meanwhile, Georgia Tech has not played since defeating the Wisconsin Badgers on Feb. 14. The Yellow Jackets feature the nations top-ranked player, Irina Falconi, and have four wins against teams ranked 29-35 this season. Their only two losses of 2010 have come to #3 California and #13 Tennessee.
Clemson has a 24-7 series advantage against the Yellow Jackets, and have won two straight against the Jackets. Last season, the Tiger defeated the Jackets, 4-3, in Clemson by winning the doubles point and winning at the top three flights, despite missing #4 Ani Mijacika due to injury.
The previous season, the Tigers knocked off the #2 Yellow Jackets, 4-1, in the ACC Tournament on the way to the 2008 ACC Championship.
Clemson has three singles players currently ranked, in #18 Ina Hadziselimovic is part of two top-25 doubles teams, as she and Bek (11-5) are ranked 19th, and she and Wong (9-2) are #21 nationally.
After playing the Jackets, Clemson will travel to #19 Miami on Feb. 27, before returning home to take on #29 South Florida on Mar. 5 and #15 FSU on Mar. 7.
