Women’s Tennis Concludes Play At Miami Invitational

CORAL GABLES, FL – Clemson freshman Ani Mijacika won the flight one singles consolation bracket as the Tigers concluded their fall season at the third annual Miami Invitational in Coral Gables, FL on Sunday afternoon. After falling in the first set to Jacqueline Lee of Iowa, Mijacika claimed the second set and then won a tie-break third set for the victory.

In other singles action, Samantha Eppelshiemer won a tight match over the Hawkeyes’ Kayla Berry in three sets (6-7, 6-4, 10-8), while Alexandra Luc posted a 6-0, 7-6 victory against Pia Terol of Florida Atlantic.

Kathi Gerber dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Merel Beelen of Iowa, and Maria Brito was defeated by Florida State’s Jessica Wente, 6-3, 6-2. Selma Babic also fell on Sunday, suffering a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Audrey Banada of Miami.

The Tigers will begin the 2007 spring season on January 7, as they will play host to the College of Charleston.
