CATHEDRAL CITY, CA – The Clemson women’s tennis team concluded play on Sunday at the 2007 Duals In The Desert at the Moore Tennis Academy at the Desert Princess Resort in Cathedral City, CA, wrapping up its fall schedule. Junior Alexandra Luc captured the flight four singles title, while classmate Federica van Adrichem finished third at flight one.

Luc defeated UCLA’s Stephanie Wetmore in straight sets in the semifinals (6-1, 6-3). She then won the second and third sets after dropping the first to Alexis Conill of Northwestern in the championship match (2-6, 6-3, 6-4).

At flight one, Van Adrichem fell to #43 Renata Kucerkova of Fresno State on Saturday but rebounded to post a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 victory over Baylor’s Jana Bielikova for third-place in the bracket.

Ina Hadziselimovic went 2-0 in the tournament after suffering a loss in the first round of the flight two bracket. She defeated Northwestern’s Suzie Matzenauer in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, in consolation action and then won a three-set match over #116 Stephanie Davison of Texas (5-7, 6-3, 6-4) to finish fifth in the event.

Laurianne Henry and Estefania Balda finished fourth and fifth, respectively, at flight three. Both won their opening-round matches on Friday and fell in the semifinals on Saturday. To avoid playing each other in the consolation final, Balda faced Zuzana Chmelarova of Baylor, winning 6-4, 6-2 for fifth place. Henry then suffered a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Texas’ Maggie Mello.

Kathryn Gerber and Samantha Eppelsheimer participated in singles action as well.

In doubles competition, Van Adrichem teamed with Carol Salge to post wins on Saturday and Sunday in the flight two bracket. The Tiger team defeated Texas’ tandem of Mello and Courtney Zauft, 8-5, and then won an 8-5 decision over Lyndsay Kinstler and Cristala Andrews of Southern California.

Also at number two, Henry and Balda won 8-3 over Mello and Zauft for seventh-place in the tournament after falling to Kinstler and Andrews by an 8-6 margin.

Hadziselimovic and Luc fell to 37th-ranked Marija Milic and Vanja Corovic of Texas in the flight one consolation rounds on Saturday before edging the Longhorn pair of Davison and Larsson, 9-8(5).

Gerber and Eppelsheimer also posted a win on Sunday, defeating McFeeters and Paes of Fresno State, 8-1.

The Tigers’ spring season will begin in January.
