Women’s Swimming And Diving Finishes Fourth In ACC Championships

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Clemson women’s swimming and diving team earned 400.5 points and finished fourth at the ACC Championships hosted by the University of Maryland. North Carolina took its third straight ACC Championship and was followed by Virginia and Florida State.

The highlight of the evening for the Lady Tigers came in the competition’s final event. The 400 free relay team of Christie Woodruff, Elise Thieler, Jenna Burtch and Patty Hider claimed the ACC title and set new a new Clemson record with a time of 3.20.53. The time was also a new Maryland pool record.

Burtch also captured fourth in the 100 free with a time of 50.10 and Mandy Commons finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:18.55. Kimberly Cober posted an NCAA-B qualifying time of 16:55.18 in the 1650 free, good enough for seventh place. Kate Walker advanced to the finals of the 200 backstroke and finished eighth with a time of 2:03.76.

The men’s swimming and diving team will travel to College Park, MD this weekend for the ACC Championships. Preliminaries will begin on Thursday, Feb. 28.
