CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Clemson women’s swimming and diving team finished with 523.50 points to earn third place in the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships that concluded Saturday in Charlottesville, VA. The Tigers finished third for the second year in a row behind Virginia and North Carolina, which won the event for the second straight year.
Elise Thieler won the ACC Championship in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.73, a Clemson record. Mandy Commons took second place and All-ACC honors in an NCAA qualifying time of 1:01.86 in the 100 breaststroke. The sophomore broke her own school record of 1:02.52 set at the Georgia Invitational earlier this season. The 200 medley relay team of Commons, Thieler, Lindsey Kroger, and Patty Hider placed second. The team’s time of 1:41.28 set a school record by more than two seconds.
The 400 free relay team of Hider, Leslie Anderson, Jenna Burtch and Caroline Peterson finished fourth with a time of 3:23.28. The Tigers also got fifth-place finishes from Burtch in the 200 free (1:50.18), Kroeger in the 100 backstroke (56.71) and Kate Walker in the 200 backstroke (2:03.08). Betsy Potter was the team’s top diver with a 385.10 score and ninth-place finish in the three-meter event.
