CLEMSON LEADERS–Clemson is led in scoring by freshman Chrissy Floyd. She is averaging 12.2 ppg. The Lady Tigers are led in rebounding by Erin Batth with a 7.4 rpg. mark. Batth is the Lady Tigers’ second leading scorer with a 9.5 ppg. average. Krystal Scott leads the Lady Tigers in assists with 48 or 2.8 assists per game.
GIANT KILLERS-The Clemson Women’s basketball team defeated 15th-ranked North Carolina, 60-59, on January 10. On January 13, the Lady Tigers defeated third-ranked N.C. State, 71-56.
DAVIS VS. RANKED TEAMS–Under Head Coach Jim Davis, the Lady Tigers have a 28-18 record against Associated Press-ranked teams at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum.

DUKE DEFEATS CLEMSON 60-51–Rochelle Parent and Georgia Schweitzer both scored 12 points each in leading eighth-ranked Duke to a 60-51 win over Clemson in a women’s Atlantic Coast Conference basketball game at Durham, NC Sunday, January 16.
Clemson was led in scoring by Angie Cossey with 14 points. Cossey was 5-7 from the field and 4-6 from the three-point line.
The 60 points was a season low for the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils scored only 63 points vs. Penn State earlier this season. Clemson shot 18-40 from the field for a .450 mark, the highest by a Duke opponent this season.
Duke has a 16-1 record overall and a 5-0 mark in the ACC. Clemson drops to 11-6 overall, 2-3 in the ACC. The BlueDevils are ranked 11th by the Associated Press poll and eighth by the USA-Today poll. In the first half, Clemson broke away from a 14-13 lead with 12:56 left to go in the first half. From this point, the Lady Tigers went on a 7-2 run and built a 21-15 advantage. Chrissy Floyd hit a jump shot. From this point, Duke scored nine unanswered points and took a 28-25 lead at the half as the Blue Devils’ Peppi Browne hit four free throws in this run. Duke had a 33-31 lead with 17:29 remaining in the game. The Blue Devils went on a 18-1 run and built a 51-32 lead with 8:22 left to go in the game. In this run, Duke’s Rochelle Parent scored five points in this rally.
The Lady Tigers went on a 16-4 run and narrowed the lead to seven, 55-48 with 4:01 remaining in the game as Chrissy Floyd hit a jump shot. Cossey had five points in this Lady Tiger rally.
Duke won the battle of the boards 31-23. Duke was led in rebounding by Rochelle Parent with six boards. Erin Batth led Clemson in rebounding with five. Clemson was troubled by a season-high 21 turnovers. Clemson shot 18-40 from the field for a .450 pct. Duke shot 19-50 from the field for a .380 mark. Duke was 18-24 from the free throw line, while Clemson was 9-14.
Floyd Leads Lady Tigers to Upset of #3 NC State-Freshman Chrissy Floyd scored 15 points to lead five Lady Tigers in double figures, as Clemson upset third-ranked NC State Thursday, January 13, at Littlejohn Coliseum, 71-56. It was the second straight win over a top 12 opponent for Jim Davis team. Clemson downed 12th-ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Monday evening, 60-59.
It was the first loss of the season for Kay Yow’s team from NC State. They were attempting to tie the school record for consecutive wins. NC State is now 14-1 overall, 5-1 in the ACC. Clemson never trailed in the game.
Clemson improved to 11-5 overall, 2-2 in the ACC. It was the highest ranked win for Clemson since the season opener of the 1996-97 season when Clemson upset second-ranked Georgia, 83-78. It was the 44th win over a Top 25 team for Jim Davis, the fifth time he has upset a top 15 NC State team in the last four years. It was Clemson’s fifth straight win over NC State, regardless of site and the fifth straight year Clemson has downed the Pack in Littlejohn Coliseum.
Floyd scored 15 points on 7-14 shooting off the bench in her 30 minutes of play. Krystal Scott scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, while starting center Joanie Mungro added 10 points and eight rebounds. Mungro, who is playing this season with a pace-maker to regulate a non-life threatening heart ailment, went head to head with ACC Player of the Year Summer Erb.
Erb scored 13 and had nine rebounds, but she got just five field goal attempts against Mungro and the Clemson defense in her 31 minutes of play. Kaayla Chones, daughter of former Marquette All-American and NBA first-round pick Jim Chones, had 11 points, but she was the only other Wolfpack player in double figures. Terah James added eight in a starting role, while Amy Simpson had the same number off the bench.
Clemson held NC State to 56 points, 17 under their average and six fewer than their previous low total this season. The Pack hit just 37.7 percent from the field and just 26 percent on three-point shots. They had a 6/18 assist/turnover ratio. Clemson won the battle of the boards 45-33 against the bigger Wolfpack team, and Clemson committed just 13 turnovers.
The Lady Tigers were also outstanding at the free throw line, hitting 21-28 compared to 11-20 for NC State. Clemson was especially proficient in the clutch, hitting 13-15 from the line inside the last five minutes of the game.
Clemson opened a 7-0 lead and were never headed. The Pack cut the lead to 7-5, but Clemson went on a 17-2 run to take a 24-7 lead with 5:10 left in the half. Clemson’s defense swarmed over Summer Erb to deflect lob passes. The senior had just three shots and four points the entire first half. NC State rallied the remainder of the half and cut the margin to nine at intermission behind the play of Amy Simpson and Ivy Gardner, who combined for eight points in the last 4:36 of the game.
NC State cut the lead to seven twice in the opening minutes of the second half behind Chones, the last time at 28-21. Clemson moved the lead back to double figures at 31-21 on a field goal by Erin Batth with 17:33 left. NC State cut the margin under nine just once the remainder of the contest.
A 15-6 run, highlighted by fastbreak buckets and assists from Floyd, and strong inside play by Batth and Mungro highlighted the action for Clemson in the middle of the second half. A layup by Floyd off an in-bounds play gave Clemson a 58-40 lead with just over three minutes left. NC State cut the lead to 58-48 with 1:35 left, but Clemson made 10 straight free throws down the stretch.
CLEMSON UPSETS NORTH CAROLINA–Chrissy Floyd added 15 in leading Clemson to a 60-59 upset win over 12th-ranked North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC Monday, January 10. This was the first time Clemson has defeated North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC since 1990. Erin Batth had 11 rebounds for the Lady Tigers. The win over 12th-ranked North Carolina on January 10, was the highest ranked team Clemson has defeated on the road since the Lady Tigers defeated ninth-ranked Virginia 58-44 on January 4, 1997.
UPCOMING ACTION-Clemson will play at Virginia on January 20 in Charlottesville, VA. Clemson’s next home game will be Monday, January 24, as the Lady Tigers entertain Wake Forest in an Atlantic Coast Conference contest.

JOANIE MUNGRO IS BALANCED IN REBOUNDING–Joanie Mungro has 106 offensive rebounds and 106 defensive rebounds in her career at Clemson. The senior was a junior college transfer. For her career at Clemson, she is averaging 4.9 rpg.

MUNGRO OVERCOMES OBSTACLES–Clemson’s Joanie Mungro had a pacemaker inserted in December. She has a rare, non-life threatening heart ailment that required a pacemaker. So far this season, she is averaging 22.6 minutes per game and has started 10 of the 11 games she has played.
Mungro is the Lady Tigers’ second leading rebounder this season with a 6.4 rpg. mark. Mungro leads the Lady Tigers in field goal pct. this season as she has hit 31-58 field goals for a .534 mark. For her career at Clemson, she has hit 92-187 from the field for a .492 pct.
LADY TIGER SHOOTING–Clemson has hit 377-969 from the field this season for a .389 mark. The Lady Tigers have shot over 40% seven times, and over 50% once this year. The Clemson opponents are shooting 365-970 >from the floor for a .376 pct.

She is also a 73% free throw shooter this season. In Clemson’s upset win over North Carolina on January 10, Scott scored a career-high 16 points.

LEONARD NAMED TO THE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM–Amirah Leonard was named to the All-Tournament team at the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament on November 24 & 26. Leonard scored a career-high 25 points vs. Old Dominion and had 15 points in the Kentucky game.
HEAD COACH JIM DAVIS HAS 270 WINS AT CLEMSON–Head Coach Jim Davis has a 270-122 record at Clemson as he is in his 13th season. During his NCAA Division I career, he has a 289-130 record.
