Women?s Diving Named CSCAA Division I Scholar All-America Team

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s diving team has been named a Scholar All-America Team for the 2013 fall semester by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), as announced by the organization on Thursday. The Tigers finished the fall semester with a 3.44 grade point average as a team.

“Our program is leading a lifestyle of excellence not only in the sport of diving but also in the classroom,” said Head Coach Leslie Hasselbach Adams. “Our divers are committed to high academic standards both individually and as a team. I am proud of our ladies for their continued achievement in academics.”

The Team Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester and once in the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

Clemson finished tied for 22nd overall for highest GPA among Division I women’s swimming and diving teams. The Tigers had the second highest mark in the ACC finishing just below Duke, who recorded a 3.46 GPA. Clemson was the only school from the state of South Carolina to make the list on the women’s side.

Individually, four Tigers recorded a perfect 4.00 GPA for the fall semester. In addition, Emily Howard recently received the Weaver-James-Corrigan Award to earn an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship.

Last season, in 2012-13, the Tigers were named a Scholar All-America Team for the entire academic year. Clemson compiled a 3.58 GPA that year to rank sixth in the country and first in the ACC.

In the pool, the Tigers finished the 2013-14 regular season with a 10-1-1 mark in dual meets, including a 7-0 record at home, and went on to finish sixth in the diving competition at the ACC Championships. Seven divers have earned bids to compete at the NCAA Zone B Championships beginning on Monday, March 10 in Greensboro, NC.
