Women’s Cross Country Finishes 11th At Notre Dame Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Beth Ahern’s 11th-place individual finish led Clemson’s Lady Tigers to an 11th place team finish at the 13th annual Notre Dame Invitational women’s cross country meet in Notre Dame, IN Friday afternoon. The national event held on the Notre Dame Golf Course featured 21 teams from Oregon in the West to Cornell in the East.

Clemson ranked 11th out of 21 teams with a team total of 292 points. Host Notre Dame, ranked 14th in the nation, won the event with 57 points. Missouri was second and Oregon was third.

Ahern, a senior from nearby Toledo, OH, ran the 5K course in a time of 17:45. It was the third straight top dozen finish for Clemson’s top runner. Earlier this year she finished fourth at the Western Carolina Invitational and was ninth at Winthrop.

Classmate Erika van Reenan also contributed to the Clemson cause with a top 25 finish. She finished 25th with a time of 18:08 .

Jennifer Meador and Shannon Schoppman finish back to back, 70th and 71st, respectively. Meador had a time of 18:49, while Schoppman posted an 18:52 time in the event. Clemson’s fifth runner was Diane Schillow, a freshman from Landsdale, PA, who was 115th with a time of 19:54.

Clemson will next be in action next Saturday when the Lady Tigers compete in the Furman Invitational.
