Women’s Cross Country Claims Title at ECU Pirate Invitational

Greenville, NC – The Clemson women’s cross country team claimed its second team title of the season Saturday morning after winning the ECU Pirate Invitational at the Lake Kristi course. The Lady Tigers won the 5K competition with a total of 19 points. East Carolina was second with 35, while Gardner-Webb was third place at 82 total points.

“The kids are really starting to step up and have fun as a team,” said Gordon Thomson, distance coach at Clemson.

Jenna Baker once again led the Lady Tiger attack, as she posted a career-best time of 18:10. She was one of five Clemson harriers to record a time of less than 19:00 for the 5000m distance. Baker has now led the team individually in three consecutive races. She was fourth Saturday.

Laura Laughlin was again consistent with a time of 18:20. She was sixth place in the individual standings. Stephanie Buffo, in her second meet of the season, was seventh overall with a time of 18:33. Abby Iselborn, also a freshman, finished eighth with a time of 18:33 at the line. Sunday Ford rounded out the team’s scoring effort with a 10th-place showing and time of 18:58.

Others who competed Saturday for the Lady Tigers were Leianne Cade (32nd, 21:10).

Clemson returns to action on Saturday, October 13 for the Furman Invitational in Greenville, SC.
