Women’s Basketball To Begin Competition At Dead River Company Classic In Orono, ME

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s basketball team will travel to Orono, ME for the Thanksgiving holiday to participate in the Dead River Company Classic. The Lady Tigers (1-3) will take on St. John’s (0-2) in day one action on Friday at 4:30 pm at the Harold Alfond Sports Arena on the campus of the University of Maine. Friday’s late game will feature the host Black Bears against Brown. Saturday’s contests are slated to begin at 3:30 pm and 6:00 pm.

Fans will be able to listen to the Clemson-Red Storm contest on WCCP (104.9-FM) in Clemson, SC.

Tasha Taylor continues to lead the Lady Tigers with a 12.5 scoring average. The junior from Columbus, GA has totaled double figures in three of Clemson’s first four games. Fellow guard Christy Brown is also averaging in double figures with 10.8 ppg, and she ranks third in the ACC with a 5.5 assist per game average. Rookie Lele Hardy boasts a team-best 7.0 rebounds per game statistic with 28 collected on the year.

Firsts All Around Friday afternoon’s contest between the Clemson Lady Tigers and St. John’s Red Storm will be the first meeting in history between the two schools. Whoever Clemson faces in Saturday’s contest will be a new opponent as well, as the Lady Tigers have never played a game against Maine or Brown.

Scouting the Red Storm St. John’s enters Friday night’s contest with an 0-2 record. The Red Storm fell to Iona in the opening round of the preseason WNIT, 66-56, and then dropped a 57-45 decision to Army on Nov. 19.

Just seven players have earned minutes for the St. John’s team with Nikki Jo Rotolo leading the way. The freshman has a team-best 12.0 scoring average while also pulling down 6.5 rebounds per game, handing out five assists and collecting three steals. Angel Tate leads the team on the boards with 10.5 rpg.

The Red Storm is averaging 50.5 points per game with a 42.5 rebounds per game average.

Scouting the Black Bears Maine has defeated William & Mary and Princeton while falling to Middle Tennessee State for a 2-1 overall ledger.

The Brown Bears are led by Bracey Barker who owns a 17.5 scoring average and a 6.3 rebounds per game figure.

The team is averaging 65.0 points per game with a 36.0 rebound per game statistic. Maine owns a .343 three-point shooting percentage, as Ashley Underwood has drained five in the Brown Bears’ three contests.

Scouting the Brown Bears Brown has also played four games prior to this weekend’s tournament and enters the event with a 1-3 record. They have defeated Sacred Heart but fell to Providence, Fairfield and Army.

Ashley King-Bischof leads the Bears with 14.8 points per game on 24-53 shooting for a .453 percentage. Lena McAfee owns a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game figure with 26 collected in Brown’s four contests.

Overall, the Bears are averaging 61.8 points per game with a 40.5 rebounding statistic.
