Women’s 4×4 Victorious as Tigers Close Action at Virginia Tech Elite Meet

BLACKSBURG, VA – Clemson won the women’s 4x400m relay on Saturday to close out action at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet from Rector Field House. It was the lone win for the Tigers on Saturday, but the eighth victory for the Tiger track & field teams over the course of the weekend.

Clemson’s women put the finishing touches on the weekend. The 4×4 team of Jordan Rispress and Warren Fraser.

The Tigers’ distance medley relay team was second in the men’s competition. It was a solid performance by the Tiger team of Jasen Turnbull, Ryan Mangone, Nathan Hendershot and Chris Slate. Clemson recorded a season-best time of 9:54.52 and was within striking distance of Virginia after Hendershot put together a 1:51 leg on the 800 meter portion of the relay.

April Sinkler was runner-up in the women’s high jump. A native of Stafford, VA, the three-time conference champion in the event cleared a height of 5’8.5″, which tied for the top jump with three other competitors. But, she achieved the clearance in more attempts than the winner Amina Smith of Maryland.

Josh Fowler was seventh in the men’s triple jump. The graduate student from Inman, SC turned in a mark of 47’11”. April Sinkler finished in the same position for the women’s team. She hit a mark of 41’1.75″. Jasmine Brunson was 12th with a mark of 39’0.25″.

In the women’s shot put, newcomer Danielle Curry improved on her personal indoor best. The transfer from Youngstown State hit on a toss of 50’0.75″. She is only the third female in Clemson track & field history to surpass the 50-foot mark in the shot put. Jamine Moton (2002) and Nikki Sims (1996) are the others.

The Tigers return to action in two settings next weekend. The majority of the two teams will be at home for the Tiger Paw Invitational, while a small group will travel to Fayetteville, AR for the Tyson Invitational.
