Clemson Athletics’ Social Summer promotion continues today, June 19, with Web Wednesday. Each week a story that encompasses the Clemson experience will be featured on our webpage. This week’s memory comes from Brandi Webb of Christiansburg, Virginia.
For as long as I can remember, I have been a devoted Clemson Tiger fan. There are videos of me at the age of 3, acting as a cheerleader and saying “Go Clemson!” I spent my childhood living in Spartanburg, South Carolina, my dad’s hometown. Being so close to Clemson, and having my dad as a Clemson fan, being a Tiger was instilled in me. My dad had season tickets to football games for several years, and often chose to take me instead of one of his friends. I can still remember my first game. We stopped by KFC to grab a bucket of chicken, headed to campus, and sat by the water having our own father/daughter tailgate. I can still remember the energy I felt before even entering the stadium and the excitement I had; I was finally getting to see Clemson play in person! I remember looking up at my dad telling him, “I’m going to go to college here one day”.
Once sitting in the stands, the energy I felt was even more electrifying! I witnessed, the Most Exciting 25 Seconds in College Football, shouted “C-L-E-M-S-O—N!” with thousands of others, and heard the cannons when a touchdown was scored; in my first 6 years of life, this day was by far the most fun I had experienced.
A few years later my family made the move to Christiansburg, Virginia; where I reside today. I now live 10 minutes away from Virginia Tech, and Clemson fans are few. Even though I live several hours away, I still wear my Clemson attire proudly, and have a nice bright orange paw print decal on my car. My husband is a Virginia Tech fan, so every 3 years, unless there’s a meeting at the ACC Championship game, there is a war in our house.
My dad and I still get together every game day and manage to make at least one trip every year to Clemson, South Carolina to watch the Most Exciting 25 Seconds in College Football!
