Trahan, Glover Earn PGA Tour Card

Dec. 7, 2004

Former Clemson All-Americans D.J. Trahan and Lucas Glover both earned PGA Tour Cards through the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament completed Monday in California. Trahan finished the six-day, 108-hole tournament at 10-under-par 422, while Glover finished at seven-under-par 425.

Glover made the most dramatic shot of the day, as he birdied the 18th and final hole of the event when he hit his iron shot within two feet of the cup. He made the putt to make his card by one shot. Trahan shot a five-under-par 67 on Monday and made the cut for the tour by three shots. He finished with a 422 total for the 108 holes.

Trahan finished the tournament with rounds of 67-69-73-72-74-67, while Glover had rounds of 69-71-73-71-70-70. It will be the first year on the PGA Tour for Trahan, who was the leader of Clemson’s 2003 National Championship team. It will be the second year on tour for Glover, who won $557,454 last year, his rookie season. But, he finished 134th on the money list, just outside the top 125 that is exempt for the next year.

With Glover and Trahan qualifying, it gives Clemson four former players on the PGA Tour for the 2005 season. Jonathan Byrd, who finished 70th on the PGA Tour Money list, and Charles Warren, who earned his card after an eighth place ranking on the Nationwide Tour, will also be on the PGA Tour with exempt status in 2005. This will be the first time Clemson has had four players exempt for the PGA Tour. It will be the fourth straight year on tour for Byrd, who was a senior at Clemson in 2000. It will be the second year on the PGA Tour for Warren, who played in 1999. Warren was a senior in 1997 and is the only Clemson golfer to win the NCAA Championship.

Trahan, Byrd and Warren all won tournaments in 2004. Byrd won the B. C. Open on the way to winning $1,133,165. Trahan won the Miccosukee Championship on the Nationwide Tour, the last event of the year. It was one of five top 10 finishes on the Nationwide Tour for Trahan. Warren won two events, consecutive Nationwide Tour titles at the Samsung Canadian Open and the Cox Classic.
