CLEMSON, SC – Selected members of the Clemson men’s and women’s track & field teams will travel to two different destinations this weekend for last chance qualifiers at Virginia Tech and Notre Dame. The meet in South Bend, IN will be held Friday, March 4, while the Virginia Tech Qualifiers will take place in Blacksburg, VA on Saturday, March 5.
Clemson has a total of four automatic NCAA qualifiers for next week’s indoor national meet, and several more who are in strong position to earn spots as at-large competitors. Clemson’s auto qualifiers are Stormy Kendrick (60m dash), Brianna Rollins (60m hurdles), April Sinkler (long jump) and Miller Moss (heptathlon). Others considered virtual “locks” to earn NCAA bids are Spencer Adams (60m hurdles), Jasmine Edgerson (60m hurdles), Marlena Wesh (400m dash), Sinkler (triple jump) and Brittney Waller (weight throw).
Only two females will make the trip to Notre Dame on Friday, Sonni Austin and Kim Ruck. A junior from Greer, SC, Ruck posted a personal best 9:21.34 in a third-place ACC finish in the 3000m run last weekend. Austin looks to improve on her season-best in the 400m dash. The men’s team will travel a pair of sprinters in the 60m and 400m dash events, as well as a trio of runners in the 800 and the 4x400m relay. Clemson’s relay ran an ACC winning time 3:10.47 last weekend in Blacksburg.
A number of Clemson’s women will be competing on Saturday in Blacksburg. Chief among them will be freshman Janice Jackson and Briana Johnson in the 60 hurdles, Danielle Curry in the weight throw.
The men’s team will send three athletes to Blacksburg on Saturday. Josh Fowler will compete in both horizontal jumps, while Marcus Maxey is entered in the 60 hurdles and Alex Padgett in the weight throw.
The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held March 11-12 in College Station, TX.
