Match Notes:

  • The Tigers will be playing their first dual match of the 2016 season against the Hokies, as their season-opening double header scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23 was postponed due to weather.
  • Joana Eidukonyte is the number-one ranked player in the nation in singles according to the ITA preseason poll released Jan. 5. The senior from Vilnius, Lithuania was 11-5 in fall tournament play, which included advancing to the finals of the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. in November.
  • Freshman Fernanda Navarro is ranked 59th in singles, and is 11-1 in tournament play, most recently claiming the Flight 1 singles title at the Duckworth Winter Classic two weeks ago.
  • Freshmen Ayan Broomfield and Ally Miller-Krasilnikov also won singles titles at the Duckworth Winter Classic, at Flight 2 and 3, respectively.
  • The Hokies are 2-2 on the season, after opening the year with wins over Radford and Western Carolina, and then falling to Illinois and Oregon in the ITA Kickoff in Lubbock, Texas.
  • Clemson has a 17-3 all-time advantage in the series against Virginia Tech, including a 5-2 record in matches played in Blacksburg.
  • In the most recent meeting between the two teams, the Tigers defeated the Hokies by a score of 5-2 in Clemson on Feb. 20, 2015. Eidukonyte and fellow senior Tristen Dewar each won singles matches in the victory.
