Tigers To Compete At The 2004 NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships

CLEMSON, SC – The Tiger track and field team will compete at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 9-12. This year’s meet will be held in Austin, TX, at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

Clemson’s NCAA Outdoor Qualifiers Nine Tigers will represent Clemson at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Airese Currie, Tye Hill, George Kitchens, Adam Linkenauger, Lydell Perry and Ronald Richards will compete in eight events. Currie is making his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships to compete in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. The junior from Columbia, SC, is ranked 13th in the 100m and 20th in the 200m entering this week’s meet. Currie also runs anchor for the Tigers’ 4x100m relay team which has the 14th-fastest time of the season. Griffin, a senior from Greenville, SC, will run lead-off on the Tigers’ 4x100m relay team in Austin. He is returning to the NCAA Championships for the second time as a member of Clemson’s 400m relay.Rick Hill is ranked 25th in the decathlon entering this week’s meet. The senior from Chapel Hill, NC, also competed in the decathlon at the national meet a year ago, placing 14th. Tye Hill will compete in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in Austin. A junior from St. George, SC, Hill is making his first appearance at the NCAA Championships in individual events. He is ranked 17th in the 100m and 27th in the 200m entering this week’s meet. Hill also runs second leg on Clemson’s 400m relay team. Kitchens is making his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships as an automatic qualifier in the long jump. He was the East Region runner-up this year and is ranked 19th entering the NCAA Championships. Adam Linkenauger, a freshman from Fincastle, VA, is making his first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The ACC Champion in the high jump cleared 6’11” at the East Region meet to finish tied for second. He is ranked 22nd entering the national meet. McDaniel is making his first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the high jump this season. The senior from Gray Court, SC, tied for second at the East Region Championships with a mark of 6’11” to advance to the national meet. He is ranked 24th entering this week’s meet. Perry, a freshman from Jonesboro, GA, placed fifth in the 110m hurdles to advance to the NCAA Championships. He is ranked 20th entering this national meet. Richards is making his second appearance at the NCAA Championships as a member of the Tigers’ 4x100m relay team. The junior from Alexandria, VA, runs third leg on Clemson’s 400m relay team.
